GIS Educators Day
November 13, 2011
GIS Educators Day, sponsored by NEARC, esri, and the New England Geography Education Network, is a full-day conference devoted exclusively to topics and issues pertaining to the use of GIS and other geospatial technologies in K-12, college, and informal education.

This unique event is a one day pre-conference to NEARCís annual professional user conference which will run from November 13 - 16 at the same location. The conference will feature hands-on computer labs, oral presentations, panel discussions, and posters exploring a range of resources, projects, and topics.

The day also addresses the number one goal of GIS conference goers...the opportunity to network with other educational professionals who share your interest in geospatial technologies. Whether youíre an experienced GIS user or a newcomer who wants to learn about the educational possibilities of this powerful tool, youíll want to put this outstanding regional event on your "Must Do" list for 2011.

Conference topic areas:
  • Community Projects & Partnerships
  • Teaching with GIS in Higher Education
  • Teaching with GIS in K-12 Schools
  • Teaching GIS: Strategies and Methods
  • Strategies for GIS Training for Educators
  • GIS in Informal Education
  • Integrating GIS with GPS/Remote Sensing
  • GIS in the Cloud
  • Open Source GIS
  • Emerging Topics: Mobile Devices and Crowdsourcing
Here are a few things last yearís GIS Educators Day attendees had to say about their conference experience:
  • The GIS Educators' Days are really terrific. I've been to two, and they were both great - very large benefit in a very short time. It would take a lot to keep me away from the next one.
  • This conference well exceeded my expectations and addressed my goals completely. It was very well organized, and I plan to make the thousand-mile trip again next year to attend in Saratoga Springs.
  • Meeting and chatting with other educators was very valuable (and fun!). Also, I really enjoyed learning about the service and community based projects.
  • [I enjoyed] the professionalism and level of expertise in the design and presentation of the workshops...the conference energy & enthusiasm, a chance to spend some quality time with some really high quality GIS educators
PLEASE NOTE: There will be an Education track at the main NEARC conference (following GIS Educators Day) as well. In general, education presentations at the main conference should be ones that, while on the topic of education, have significant relevance to the wider professional GIS community. Presentations at GIS Educators Day are directed specifically to the K-12 and higher ed communities.
